Possessed, the ITV Studios entertainment production label set up by Glenn Hugill, has secured its first commission and made a number of appointments to its senior management team.
Possessed has been commissioned by ITV Daytime to make Stephen Mulhern-fronted game show Pick Me, which will launch its five-week run in October. Central to Pick Me is getting picked and Stephen can choose whomever he wants from the entire studio audience to play, so they have to catch his eye! In the game, a contestant plays to win a prize against a panel of three players who are each trying to win £1000. The prize is hidden in one of the panel’s podiums, so the contestant simply has to find it by asking each a question. If they have the prize, the correct answer will show on their screen, but if not, it stays blank and the panellist will have to make up a convincing answer on the spot. The contestant must then guess which one has the prize – but whichever panellist they pick will win the cash, whether they have the prize or not, so all of the panel must convince the player to pick me!
Glenn Hugill, Managing Director of Possessed, said: “Pick Me genuinely makes real people the stars and features lots of ‘can you believe they said that?’ moments for both the studio audience and the viewers at home as our players attempt to bluff each other absolutely on the spot. It’s an unpredictable, laugh-out-loud, feel-good family entertainment in the grand tradition of the classic game shows of the 1980s and it’s a real pleasure to watch Stephen having such fun at the helm. It’s a party with an open door!”
Pick Me is executive produced by Glenn Hugill and series produced by Luke Shiach with Kate Stannard as the Senior Producer for Possessed. It was commissioned by Helen Warner, ITV’s Director of Daytime. The format will be distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment, who will launch it at MIPCOM.

Possessed will join the ITV Studios stable and sit alongside ITVS Entertainment, and established labels including 12 Yard Productions and Potato.
Hugill began his career as an actor and moved into presenting and producing in 2000 with Channel 5 reality series The Mole, which won the Rose D’Or. He went on to produce a number of award-winning international series including Playing it Straight (Channel 4), Beauty and the Geek (BBC3) and Cash Cab (ITV).
Hugill joined Endemol’s central creative unit in 2005 which then went on to create successful formats including SpinStar (ITV), 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow (BBC), The Whole 19 Yards (ITV) and Pointless (BBC).
He was also central to the success of Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal, the most successful UK daytime show of all time, where he created, and reportedly played, the notorious character of ‘The Banker’ alongside his role as series executive producer.
Denise O’Donoghue, ITV Studios UK Managing Director, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Glenn has chosen ITV Studios to partner with him in Possessed TV. We really wanted to bring him into ITVS and I’m delighted that he has decided to work with us. Glenn is a brilliant creative talent, an ideas person, and a meticulous producer with the necessary drive and charisma to get shows across the commissioning line and to keep them on air.”
Hugill said: “This is the most exciting time for TV format creation since the 1950s. Modern viewers have so taken control as to redefine what it means to watch TV. It’s a bit like discovering the house you’ve lived in for 50 years has a huge attic you never knew about. And a garden. With a pond in it. The time is right and the fit with ITV Studios feels great. Let’s get in that pond.”
